Henge: Arbor Low 800x800 Derbyshire lime and Irish green earths with others

Arbor Low is probably the most spectacular prehistoric monument in Derbyshire. This is an aerial view maximising the contrasts of gloss and matt finishes as a way of suggesting the muted colours of a frosty morning at this high, windswept location. I imagined the scene when the structure was created – a newly-dug ditch with icy puddles, no grass on the embankment, and the similarity of the grey excavated material in these wintry conditions to the gnarled grey stones, lying on the ground as if set out to be erected later.
