Vorest 900x600 Real earths collected in and around the Forest of Dean, West Glos with Irish greens

The Forest of Dean (the Vorest in the vernacular) is spectacular countryside not only for its historic deciduous woodland but also for its brilliant red earth and coloured clays. The image is based on a map of the region twixt the Wye and Severn vales. I relate the earth colours to the colours of the autumn leaves, using reverse stencilling of leaf-shapes. Matt and gloss resins contrast land and water. Coal dust and Cotswold clays are also incorporated.
